The New Zealand women's youth team have got off to a winning start at the FINA World Women's Youth Water Polo championships in Auckland, after thrashing South Africa in their opening match with a 21-5 victory. The team are feeling confident as they prepare to face Spain next.
The New Zealand Women's youth team are keeping calm and composed ahead of their next big match.
Liana Dance who has just returned from playing with club Mataro in Barcelona says her familiarity with Spain's style of play has given her and the team much confidence ahead of their match.
"Spain is one of the best countries in the world that play water polo, they've got such a strong system from youth to senior women. But our girls are really confident that we can give them a good run."
New Zealand came out strong with a 21-5 whopping victory over South Africa on Monday night at Auckland's AUT Millennium - Sir Owen G. Glenn National Aquatic Centre, something Dance attributes to the level of skill in the team.
The side's youngest member, Morgan McDowall, also looks forward to making her debut for New Zealand in their match against Spain.
The 14-year-old says, 'I'm probably going to be really nervous cause this is my first game, it's against Spain and they're really tough. But yeah it's been cool, I've got to know the girls.'
New Zealand will face off with Spain tonight at 8pm.
