Fourth in the Open men's 90kg to 95kg Harliz Wharerau, third placed Bikini Tall Sheena Singh and Pro-bodybuilder Kenny O’Malley.
Harliz Wharerau was first introduced to bodybuilding when he first met Pro-bodybuilder Kenny O’Malley and has dedicated himself to the sport for over three years.
His drive to represent Māori on stage is part of his motivation, “It means everything you know because I am up there representing Aotearoa and our people tangata whenua.”
The ‘Bikini Tall’ section of the bodybuilding competition is rapidly gaining interest.
Sheens Singh from Tapuika has been competing for two years and won her first gold medal earlier this year at the ‘Arnold Classic’ competition in Melbourne, Australia.
Today’s competition was tough and even though she only placed third, the more important goal for her is lifting awareness of the sport, “It means that the sport is growing, it means the girls are bringing their A game every time.”
Long standing Pro-bodybuilder Kenny O’Malley from Tainui isn’t a newbie when it comes to competing and says he feels for new competitors who are anxiously waiting to take the stage, “It’s a bit nervous back here, this is the end of the road for your twelve week journey, this is when you step out there in front of everyone and put it all on display.”
