Oly Whites to challenge decision by Oceania Football Confederation

New Zealand Football CEO Andy Martin has confirmed they have been working with their lawyers to challenge the decision made by Oceania Football Confederation regarding the eligibility of Deklan Wynne to compete in the Olympic Qualifying tournament in Papua New Guinea.

Just hours before the New Zealand U23 Football Team were due to play in yesterday's Pacific Games final, the Oceania Football Confederation upheld Vanuatu's protest against the involvement of South African-born Deklan Wynne.

The 20-year-old left-back Wynne represented New Zealand at the FIFA U20 World Cup last month and has also played for the All Whites after becoming a naturalised New Zealander.  He also holds a New Zealand passport.

As replacements to New Zealand, Vanuatu faced a prepared Fijian side in the Olympic qualifier, and persevered to push the game into overtime to a penalty shoot-out.

Vanuatu landed their first three penalties, but with one miss, Fiji's Jale Dreola scored the decisive kick which ended the match at 4-3.

Fiji moves on to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
