Olympics Rio Day 10 – Medal contention for Kayaking and Hockey

To Day 10 of the Rio Olympics - the New Zealand Black Sticks celebrate after their win against Australia. Kayaker Lisa Carrington has made a head start heading into finals after winning in her heat and the semi-finals, and eighth place for Ngāi Tahu cyclist Dylan Kennett.

Pure skill sends Black Sticks into semi-finals

Today the Women’s Black sticks beat Australia 4-2 in their quarterfinal match. Going into the semi-finals the girls will face the winners of the Great Britain and Spain match. If the Black sticks are successful they will play the Netherlands in the finals, a team they drew against in the pool play.

Carrington still Olympic best time for K1200

Kayaker Lisa Carrington still holds the top spot for the fastest time in her speciality race K1200. She holds the Olympic-best time of 39.561. It’s a sure bet and New Zealanders are confident history will be repeated.

Eighth place for Ngāi Tahu cyclist

Dylan Kennett clocked up two personal bests in the 1km time trial and 200m flying lap which boosted him into bronze medal contention. However come long distance Kennett failed to possess the same winning streak, placing him 8th overall in the six-event omnium.
