Online extra - Mitre 10 National Rugby Competition

The Southland Stags will open their national provincial campaign with a traditional match against neighbours Otago later this month. The competition was officially launched yesterday. Southland Head Coach Hoani MacDonald of Ngāi Tahu says, “Down South provincial rugby is what the community is built on so everyone is pumped up for the Stags to get into it this year, first game against Otago so the excitement is right up there”.

We also chat with other coaches around the new breakdown laws and the return of an iconic silverware presented by Former Bay of Plenty captain Tuck J Waaka who was the first man to lift it back in 1976. The Rugby Cup will be awarded to the winners of this year’s Mitre 10 Cup competition.
