Open Mens touch champs continue training during Xmas

The Whakatāne Touch Competition reigning Open Mens champs are hitting the training field before digging in to their Christmas feast.

Team member, Maahia Nathan says that the journey to reclaim the winning title again isn't a walk in the park.

“We train hard for this competition because it is one of the summer highlights for us, a competition that we compete in every year,” says Nathan.

Last year they beat Lock'N from Rotorua 7-2. They aim to retain their title despite the tough competition.

“If you don't win, basically you are out of the competition so all teams will be hard competition," says Nathan.

The 30th annual Whakatāne Touch competition kicks off on January 8th.
