Otere Black called back to the Hurricane's bench

Super 15 newcomer, Otere Black is in a precarious position, although one he says he’s lucky to be in.

The first five-eight has been called back to the Hurricane's bench from Australia where he was in camp with the New Zealand Under 20’s side, to provide cover for the injured Beauden Barrett.

"I’ve been training in the team for a good five months now, so it’s nice to hear that from the coach my body is definitely ready for the work ahead.”

With Barrett out for the next four weeks, its likely Black will be used more, which could see him miss an opportunity to play for the Under 20’s side in the upcoming World Cup in Italy.

Hurricanes Coach Chris Boyd says for the moment no decisions have been made on exactly what will happen with Black, but what he does know is that he’s confident in Blacks ability to steer his side to victory if needed.

He says, “ He’s got a great understanding of the game, I have absolutely nop issues with him running, particularly with Ma’a and Conrad around.”
