Parliament is back for 2016

It's the first day back for politicians in Parliament and PM John Key wasn't holding back.  Key was quick to mock Labour and their position on the TPP.

The TPP was top of the agenda for PM John Key in his first speech of the year.

Key was quick to point out the division within Labour over the TPP which saw David Shearer and Phil Goff support it, while leader Andrew Little stood against it.

But Little hit back over Key's choice to pull out of a visit to Waitangi on Waitangi Day.

NZ First Leader Winston Peters was critical of Key after last week's signing of the TPP.

Meanwhile the Māori Party said they would only oppose the TPP if Treaty rights were threatened.

If today's business is anything to go by, 2016 is sure to see some heated debate in the Lions' Den.
