Pāua divers appeal for help against great white sharks

The pāua industry is appealing to Parliament for help against tourist shark cage diving companies that operate around Rakiura (Stewart Island).

The presence of great white sharks in their particular working area is not only affecting the local pāua harvesting, but also has an impact on access to the local tītī island.

But it is the use of 'diver-shaped' dummies to entice the sharks to bite for photo ops for tourists that is most concerning to these divers.
