Pearson returns to court

One of the men jailed for abusing Nia Glassie has appeared before the courts again.

Michael Pearson, 26, made a brief appearance in the Rotorua District Court where he pleaded guilty to one charge of disorderly behaviour relating to an incident in Rotorua's Tūtānekai St and one charge of possession of a pipe used for smoking drugs.  Both offences happened on December 27 last year.

Judge McGuire convicted Pearson and sentenced him to 40 hours community work.  In 2008, Pearson was sentenced to three years' jail for ill-treating and assaulting 3-year-old Nia Glassie, who died after months of abuse by a number of people.

He was released in 2010 and his parole conditions ended in January 2011.
