Peeni Henare puts name forward to stand for Labour Party

Te Kāea understands that Peeni Henare (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hine) has put his name forward as a candidate for the Labour Party in Tāmaki Makaurau. 

Henare is a great grandson of former Northern Māori MP Tau Henare and a grandson of the last commander of the 28th Māori Battalion Sir James Henare.

The Nominations for the Labour Party Tāmaki Makaurau candidates close on Wednesday. Tunuiarangi Mclean is the candidate for the Māori Party and Marama Davidson is the candidate for the Green Party.
