Police investigating the death of Lee Rata believe members and associates of the Mongrel Mob were involved in his assault on New Year’s Eve.
They say members of the Mongrel Mob were at a wedding reception in the area Rata was attacked..
Detective Inspector Kevin Burke says “This was a vicious beating where a number of people have set upon Mr Rata."
A man charged over his death has been remanded in custody with name suppression.
Police executed a number of search warrants in Moerewa this morning. That led to arrests on unrelated matters including drug dealing, assault and dishonesty offending.
Detective Inspector Burke says "The investigation will continue until all those responsible are located.”
