Police continue search for missing man in Manukau Harbour

A vessel crossing this Manukau bar yesterday afternoon, capsized and two people from that vessel were thrown into the water.

Senior Constable Garry Larsen says, "As a result of that, another vessel that was close by apprehended one of the people and rescued them, but the second person is still missing."

That person is a 74-year-old man of Samoan descent and Larsen says they won't be naming the man until next of kin have been notified.

Four members of the Police National Dive Squad arrived in Auckland from Wellington, and launched from the Te Toro boat ramp in Waiuku to head towards the Manukau bar to begin their search of the 74-year-old man.

Larsen says, "An aerial search is being conducted, we've got a last known position so we know where the boat or the vessel went down so that will be the area we will be concentrating on."

Police have also conducted a coastal pursuit of the Manukau Harbour.

Larsen says, "We're in a recovery phase at the moment and the search will go as long as the weather is good, we'll concentrate on the area and reassess it this afternoon as to where we go from here."
