A police dog has been shot and killed during an armed incident in Porirua this morning.
Police attended an address in Kokiri Crescent where they were looking for an individual who they wanted to arrest. He then presented a firearm and killed the dog.
An officer was also injured while jumping from the second storey of the house as a result of the incident.
A helicopter has been deployed to provide medical assistance.
The Armed Offenders Squad is currently searching for the offender, who has now left the property and is still reported to be armed.
The public is being advised to avoid the area and to report anything suspicious to 111.
