Police locate Dolphy Kohu in Waiouru

Dolphy Kohu has been located and arrested by Police in Waiouru.

Kohu and two other people were arrested at a road block around 9.20pm.

Firearms were also recovered from the vehicle Kohu was in.

Police say the three people will be taken to Ohakune Police station for questioning.

Superintendent Sue Schwalger – Central District Commander – says this will come as a great relief for communities in the central North Island:

“These arrests come after some great work from police staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the day to locate Mr Kohu.”

“I’m pleased that there was no further violence involved against police staff and that our communities will have the security of knowing Mr Kohu has been apprehended tonight,” says Shwalger.

Earlier this evening Te Tawhero Dolphy Kohu the grandfather of Dolphy Kohu spoke to Te Kāea in the hope that his grandson would give himself up to Police as he was concerned for his safety.

Superintendent Schwalger says, “The operation is not concluded yet and there is still a considerable amount of work to be done to piece together the events of the last 24 hours and establish exactly what Mr Kohu and his associates have been doing in this time.”
