Police and Fire personnel are working to recover what is believed to be a body in one of the hot pools located at Kuirau Park in Rotorua.
The area has been cordoned off, and Police, including search and rescue staff, are liaising with Fire and Rotorua Lakes Council to formulate a recovery plan.
A member of the public contacted Police after 1pm this afternoon.
Rotorua Area Commander, Inspector Bruce Horne, said, “We are yet to confirm that there is a body in the pool but we are working on that assumption. Due to the extreme temperature of the pool recovery will be very difficult and dangerous. Safety of all personnel involved is a priority and needs careful planning so we anticipate recovery will take a few hours.”
