Police on road deaths: One too many

A spate of car crashes this Queen's Birthday weekend has prompted a warning from Police, for drivers to take more care on the roads.

In Canterbury a female died at 1.15pm when the car she was in travelling in was rear-ended and pushed into on-coming traffic.

Another woman died yesterday on SH2 near Te Puke and police have confirmed her identity as 36-year-old local woman Sing Yieng Pau.

A man in his 40s died in Mangawhai this morning after his car veered off the road and flipped into the Mangroves. Emergency services attended but the man died at the scene.

In a press statement this afternoon, Canterbury police "challenged" the public to keep the road toll down. Canterbury Police Road Policing Manager Inspector Al Stewart said one fatality is one too many, "Canterbury roads are as safe as those using them and we urge the public to drive to the conditions."
