Police search continues for 10 year old Alex Fisher

Police will resume their search for 10 year old Alex Fisher this morning in the Waitarere Forest near Levin after he went missing early Tuesday morning..

They say 25 NZDF personnel from RNZAF Base Ohakea and the Linton Military Camp will join Police staff and LandSAR volunteers today, with a total of around 65 searchers plus support staff involved.

Approximately 300 properties were visited by Police yesterday including a property following reports of a break in.

A CCTV picture has been released of Alex and his brother Eric at the Waitarere Four Square at around 6:15pm on Monday evening.

Manawatu Area Commander, Sarah Stewart says, "The public can really help us locate Alex by reporting any sightings of him or his brother Eric in or around the Waitarere area on Monday afternoon or evening."

Police are asking for anyone who may have seen them on Monday afternoon to contact them.

Stewart says, "We also want all residents in Waitarere to check their property, particularly garages and outbuildings, for anything unusual."

Police say around 65 searchers combed the Waitarere Forest in sometimes thick and difficult terrain yesterday.

An asthma inhaler and spacer and a pencil case belonging to Alex have been located in the forest, and police are assessing other items found to determine if they have any relevance to the search.

Alex Fishers family issued a statement saying, "We would like to thank all those involved in the search for our son, brother and cherished family member.  We appreciate the efforts and support from friends, family members and the public.  At this time we request that our privacy is respected as we gather together at this difficult time."
