Portia Woodman on top of the world

Women’s Sevens player Portia Woodman departed last night for London, but watching the World Cup final isn’t her main reason going overseas.  She is a finalist in the Women’s Player of the Year award at the World Rugby Awards, which will be held the night after the Rugby World Cup final between New Zealand and Australia.

She is one of two New Zealand women’s players to be named as a finalist in the category; she travels to England alongside her team mate, Sarah Goss.

Woodman says, “It’s been a highlight of the year to be named in the awards.  Sarah and I are also looking forward to attending the World Cup final to cheer on the All Blacks.”

Woodman made history this year when she scored 52 tries this season, making her just the fifth person in the World Series history to achieve this milestone – men included – to cross the try line over 50 times in a season, making her the favourite to win the title.
