Portia Woodman touted for World Rugby Women's Sevens Player of the Year

NZ Women's Sevens player, Portia Woodman boarded for London last night to attend a very special occasion. Woodman and team mate Sarah Goss have been nominated for World Rugby Women's Sevens Player of the Year.

Woodman says, “Yes it definitely has, it’s a big highlight of the year, were looking forward to going to the world final, what I need to keep working on.”

She will be competing against some of the best female players in the world.  Portia is a favourite in this category.  She’s scored 52 tries this season making her only the fifth person, including men to get over the 50 mark in a season in world-series history.

“It’s a result I get to take home, the team grew all season and we have a lot of learning out of that,” said Woodman.

After qualifying for the Olympics next year in Brazil, Portia says her team is on the right path to win the first ever Olympic gold medal for sevens.
