Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, or Blue September is about getting the word out about prostate cancer, because men don't know how dangerous the disease is, they don't talk to their doctor about it, they simply don't do anything about it.
Education is the key, a healthy lifestyle, could contribute to the early detection and prevention of this disease.
2007-2009 statistics indicate, over 3000 men registered with the disease, over 600 of them died.
Most likely to get the cancer are men over 65s, and 1 out of 13 men over 75.
72% of Māori men registered with the disease will die of prostate cancer.
