Pt Chev Pirates dominate Fox Memorial grand final

In a riveting Fox Memorial grand final over the weekend, the Pt Chev Pirates proved why they've remained at the top of the competition for three consecutive years, retaining their title for 2015.

Mt Albert Lions put up a strong defensive game, with neither side scoring until 30 minutes into the game.  Otunuku dotted the first try over the line.

One minute before the half, Brad Watkinson landed a try for the Lions, evening the score to 6-all.

Both sides clearly gave it their all, as it took nearly 20 minutes into the second before another try was scored.  Otunuku claimed his second try of the match for the Pirates.

Perfect timing from Lions' Kavaliku out to Dylan on the left wing brought the score up 10-12.  By this time, the crowd expected a nail-biting finish to the game.

Six minutes out from the whistle, Otunuku broke through the defence to run nearly 30 metres of the pitch, assisting Saula Solomona to land his first try of the match, 16-10.

Unfortunately for the Lions, another Pirates try from Jonathan Carl under the post meant a comeback would be an absolute miracle.

Final score to the Pirates, Fox Memorial champions for 2015, 22-10.
