Push for better ranking for Māori MPs at this weekend's Labour AGM

Labour MPs and the party's staunchest supporters will descend on Palmerston North this weekend for the party's annual conference.

A few hundred people are expected at this weekend's conference.  Amongst them will be Labour leader Andrew Little and Māori MPs Nanaia Mahuta, Kelvin Davis and Peeni Henare.

This will be Little's first conference as leader and according to recent polls, he's sitting at 10.8% as preferred Prime Minister.  It will be crucial for him to put a stake in the ground as leader when he addresses the party on Sunday afternoon.

Labour Māori council member Daniel Phillips said they would be advocating for better recognition of the Māori MPs in the party's ranking list.

Given that they took out six of the seven Māori seats, Phillips says their performance justifies more recognition from the party's leadership.
