Ranea Aperahama finalist in 8 categories at respective music awards

Māori language recording artist Ranea Aperehama has made the finals in an impressive 8 categories at this year's Māori Music Awards and the 2015 APRA Silver Scroll Awards.

Those categories are as followed:

2015 Waiata Māori Music Awards:

- Best Traditional Māori Album
- Best Māori Pop Album
- Best Māori Urban Hip Hop/Rap/RnB Album
- Best Māori Urban Roots/Reggae Album
- Best Māori Male Solo Artist
- Best Song by a Māori Artist
-Best Māori Songwriter

2015 APRA Maioha Award: Ki Uta/ Rāngai Maomao

There will be strong competition at this year's Waiata Māori Music Awards and Ranea is ecstatic that his debut album Tihei Mauri Ora has achieved finalist placings in these categories.

Other finalists include Sid Diamond, Moana & The Tribe, Tomorrow People, Benny Tipene, Stan Walker (featuring Maisey Rika, Troy Kingi and Ria Hall), and the band Six60 also in multiple categories.

The prestigious event will be held at the Hastings Sports Centre on Friday September 11 and will also include a special acknowledgement to the event's founder, Tama Huata.

The APRA Awards will take place at the Vector Arena in Auckland on Thursday September 17. It will mark the 50th anniversary of the event.

Other Māori finalists include Stan Walker, Vince Harder and Troy Kingi for the song “Aotearoa”; Moana Maniapoto, Paddy Free and Scotty Morrison for “Upokohue”; and Ranea for the last track on his album “Ki Uta/Rāngai Maomao”.
