Rangitāne voice to settle grievances

Chris Finlayson has ticked off 40 treaty settlements over five years, more than any previous Treaty Negotiations Minister, but a group from Rangitāne says in their case, Minister Finlayson has it all wrong.

Since 1997, the Crown has been negotiating with an urban authority, Tanenuiarangi Manawatu Incorporated, to settle Rangitāne's treaty claims.

Sir Taihakurei Durie and his family are one of many who oppose the settlement.  Moana Sinclair says that Govt's treaty policies are pitting Mäori against each other.

She adds if the settlement goes through, they will be heading straight to the Waitangi Tribunal.

According to Chris Finlayson, “They can go to the High Court, they can do whatever they want and I’ll deal with it on that basis.”

Based off what Minister Finlayson just said, there could be a fiery battle ahead.
