Abbott’s victory may benefit Māori in OZ

With Tony Abbott promising to pump millions into building new infrastructure, more Māori could head across the ditch in search of better money and better lives.

After a tumultuous few months in the Labour Party camp, there were really no surprises when Tony Abbott and the Coalition managed a landslide victory in the Australian Election at the weekend.

It's estimated 140,000 Māori currently live in Australia, and with most of those ineligible to vote, they are left without basic rights.
