Rotorua Police unveil $18mil premises

Over 100 people attended the opening of Rotorua's new police headquarters.

It's a celebration of grand designs incorporating a korowai feature created by Te Arawa artist Lionel Grant.

The building itself is named Te Amokura and will house not only police staff but community groups such as the Māori Wardens.

Overall, the building cost $18 million in total, and features an earthquake proof structure, but the core value and focus for police is being able to work with the community.

While the police force didn't receive much attention in this year's budget, they believe they'll benefit greatly from a building such as this.
