Rough weather disrupts AROCA winter series

The Aratika Waka Ama Club hosted the latest event on the AROCA winter series today at Birkenhead.

Despite all the planning and commitment to run the event they had no control over the weather.

According to Te Ua Tumoana, “You paddle hard but you don't move, the race was really difficult.”

With such heavy winds, the race course was changed to keep the junior paddlers close to the shore line.  The planned 15km adult races though were cancelled due to the dangerous weather conditions.

This is the fourth event on the AROCA winter series which caters for junior paddlers through to Senior Masters and novice paddlers.

Auckland clubs host and compete in the races to accumulate points for their club.

While there were very few points accumulated today, the paddlers will get another chance with a few more events left in the series.
