Semi-final winners aim for the top at NZSS Waka Ama Championships

It was crunch time today for all teams wanting to have a place in the finals at the National Secondary Schools Waka Ama competition. Semi finals for all w6 races were held  today.

The first race of the day was the u16 500m girls' race. Tuakau College lead to the turn but it didnt' go their way.

James Cook High School have attended this competition for 2 years and easily got a place in tomorrow's finals.

In the boys' section, Te Rangianiwaniwa had 7 trainings before this competition and it showed, winning their semi final

Te Kura Takiwā o Manganuiowae from the North were happy to make the semifinals for the u16 boys section, but to make a final is a dream come true.

In the u19 girls section Whanganui High School showied they had no competition in their race

But one of the best races of the day had to be this team from Te Kuiti High School. With no water to train on, they hold their trainings on land.

Racing in lane one their competition was Hamilton Boys High school and need to be water ready, winning this semi and gaining a spot in the finals.  Hoani Waititi, in the end they showed you don't always

Tomorrow the finals will be held in the last day of the competition.
