Senior secondary school orators take to the stage at Ngā Manu Kōrero nationals

Whether it be a witty comment to get the laughs or an issue that must be highlighted, these young leaders of tomorrow, voice their concerns, desires and dreams in passionate displays of vocal expression.

It was a license for linguistics to flow freely today as the top senior secondary school orators took to the stage at the Ngā Manu Kōrero national competition in Napier.

The last time the Manu Kōrero nationals was held in Napier was in 1992, so it's only fitting topics like Iron Māori and YOLO were on offer this year.

For some of these students, it's been weeks of practising to ensure a polished performance is delivered on stage.

Tomorrow is the final day ending with prizegiving where this year's winners will be announced.
