Shane Cameron's free CHAMP program a hit with youth

Former Māori heavyweight boxer Shane "The Mountain Warrior" Cameron has won numerous titles in one of the toughest sports in the world, now he has turned his focus to a new challenge, kids.

Shane Cameron is running a free holiday program named Cameron's Holiday And Mentoring Program (CHAMP) at Hato Petera on the North Shore.

“It's for kids that don't have the opportunity, or parents who don't have the opportunity financially to send their kids away on holiday when the holidays are around, it keeps them out of mischief too,” says Cameron.

The program is supported by "Heart for Youth Foundation" which is a trust dedicated to supporting youth. Founder of the trust, Ross McCook says, “Shane does an amazing job. A guy like him that is really well known, just comes down here and rolls his sleeves up.”

The program has been running for four years and runs from Monday to Thursday with around 160 kids participating.
