Police have confirmed the name of the child who died as a result of a two-vehicle collision on state highway one in Hikurangi, Northland on New Year's Day.
He was 6-year-old Myka Tuala of Wellington.
"Our thoughts are with his family at this time," police said in a statement.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing.
