Skeletal remains discovered on Whangaparaoa coast

Skeletal remains were found buried in a piece of land on the Whangaparaoa coast about an hour north of Auckland. It’s known as an area settled by the Ngāti Manuhiri sub tribe.

This is a prime piece of real-estate was being prepared for development which was bought to a halt on Wednesday after the discovery of skeletal remains.

Ngāti Manuhiri are the known subtribe of the area. They came in yesterday to remove the remains and to bury them in a more appropriate place nearby.

Archaeologists are continuing to do their part in the expectation that more discoveries will be made.
