Southby named as new Silver Ferns coach

Netball New Zealand has just announced that for the next four years, Janine Southby will be the new head coach for the Silver Ferns.

Southby takes the helm as the 10th Silver Ferns head coach following the recent retirement of Waimarama Taumaunu.

She is currently coach of the South Steel team in the ANZ Championship, however will stand down from this position when her position as Silver Ferns head coach commences on December 1.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be given the responsibility of leading the Silver Ferns and working with such an exciting group of athletes,” Southby said.

She continues, “I am looking forward to the challenge and working with those involved to build on the solid foundations that are already in place.”

She will lead the Silver Ferns to 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and 2019 Netball World Cup in Liverpool.

Netball New Zealand will name a group of Silver Ferns triallists next week, to attend a camp in Auckland in December.

From this camp, the 2016 Silver Ferns Squad will be selected.
