St John relief staff on their way to Kaikoura

Additional paramedics and ambulance staff will arrive in Kaikoura via helicopter today to relieve staff on the ground at the moment and provide extra supplies. St John has two fully crewed ambulances operating in Kaikoura plus constant air ambulance cover.

The National Crisis Coordination Centre, Civil Defence, Government agencies and St Johns still continue to provide emergency and health services, as aftershocks are still being felt in the region.

As of 7am this morning no 111 calls for ambulance have been made in the Kaikoura region since late last night. St John’s workload in other parts of New Zealand was at normal levels overnight, despite adverse weather, particularly on the West Coast and in Taranaki.

St John advises people to have their phones, medicines and emergency kits with them and to keep in contact with family and friends.
