Successful start to NZ Surf Lifesaving Championships

Its day one of the NZ Surf Lifesaving championships being held on Ohope beach near Whakatāne and today the senior masters section took centre stage in the championships.

The event continues until the weekend, where we will see high standards being produced in New Zealand.

The Masters Ironmen competed today and the first of the three sections was the paddle board. The competitors then had to surf ski and then swim.

The Women's Master beach flag run was fast paced and action packed.

The organisers of this event hope to get more Maori involved.

This is the third time that the Championship has come to Ohope. They were first held here in 2008 and this year there are many big stars competing.

Tomorrow the open section of the championship starts.
