A successful year for Carrington

The finalists have been named for the Halberg Awards for NZ sporting excellence in 2013, and champion canoeist, Lisa Carrington, is the only individual Māori to have been named out of 25 finalists across 6 categories.

This is the second consecutive time she's been named a finalist in the Sportswoman of the Year category, and her super successful year this year could see her take it out this time around.

She took a backseat at last year's awards to fellow Olympic gold medallist Valerie Adams.

However this last year Carrington has gone on to better her previous record, not only taking out gold again at the 2013 Rowing World Championships in Germany for the 200m sprint But also landing another top spot in the 500m race, with her first bronze in this racing division.

She is up against Valerie Adams again this time round, as well as Lauren Boyle acclaimed swimmer and young golfing hot shot Lydia Ko.

The awards will be held Feb 13.
