Tactix shock win over Central Pulse

By Rahia Timutimu

The Magic wanted to maintain their unbeaten run this season, but faced the hard task of playing in Australia.

The goal to lead all quarters was achieved by scoring easily off their own centre pass, but the Vixens were always close behind.

The Vixens kept coming back strong but the Magic, led by the Silver Ferns defensive duo of Casey Kopua and Leana de Bruin, held their composure.

The Magic's first trip to Australia ended in a five goal victory as they continue to lead the ANZ Championship.  Meanwhile for the Vixens, it was a second consecutive loss at home.

To the second game of the night, the Central Pulse is regarded as one team to look out for in the finals, having won their last two games.

The Tactix however, were still looking for their first win, sitting at the bottom of the competition table.

Tactix shooter Mwai Kumwenda shot a steady stream of goals, which was matched at the other end by the experienced Pulse shooting duo of Irene van Dyk and Donna Wilkins.

Despite the Pulse leading by six at half-time, the scores were close in the final quarter with Kumwenda being heavily marked, and Captain Anna Thompson having to bear the majority of the shooting.

In the end, the Tactix pulled through to take their first win of the season.
