The organisers of this year's Rugby League World Cup are hoping to use the sport as a means to promote well-being and leadership to children. They worked alongside the Government and the NZRL to launch The RLWC Educational Resource.

ANZ Steel teammates, Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit and Katarina Cooper didn't hesitate to answer a callout message on the Raukawa Ki Runga Maori rugby League Facebook page, looking for players for this weekend's Wahine Division. The biggest turnout with eight teams registered this year, however for the pair they weren't expecting the challenge they faced first up.

NRL stars to feature in NZ Māori against NZ Residents
At this year’s Junior Māori Rugby League Competition in Hopuhopu on the weekend, more than 1000 participants had taken the field, the biggest showing to date. Te Kāea reporter Tamati Tiananga also caught up with NZ Māori Rugby League chairman John Devonshire who revealed some of the players who will be named in the squad.
