A book about the history of Ngāti Porou carving was launched in Auckland today. It explores the art form's rapid evolution over 100 years leading up to 1930 and the influence the Iwirakau Carving School had in the East Coast region.

NZ Warriors want their own haka
The Warriors are being taught a haka of sorts by Donna and Anaru Grant of Te Arawa as a means to rouse and invigorate the team before each weekly NRL match. It's something for the fans to do to support the players, and will be done for the first time next week against the Roosters at Auckland's Eden Park.
Māori culture intensive for the Warriors
Intelligence, fitness, strength and understanding cultural heritage are all qualities of a warrior, and that's exactly what the Vodafone Warriors focussed on at a cultural day at Auckland University's Waipapa Marae, run by Te Whare Wānanga o Te Awanuiārangi, to give them a crash course in Māori language and protocols. The day was encouraged and organised by Warriors board member, Donna Grant, in order to promote Māori culture within the team.
