Tainui Waka Kapa Haka Regionals 2016 - Ngaati Korokii Kahukura Pakeke

Ngaati Korokii Kahukura Pakeke take the stage for the first time this year and have united in support of their rangatahi group Te Aka Taarere.

This kapa represents Waikato, Tainui, Poohara and Maungatautari Marae and the hapū of Ngaati Korokii Kahukura.

The core goal of this kapa is to uphold the many korero of their tupuna and stand with humility and pride.

The majority of performers in this kapa are new to the stage and a unique feature sees seven siblings, all older than 50 years participating in the performance.

Ataahua Papa and Carlson Wirihana play key roles both as tutors and kaitātaki wahine and kaitātaki tane.

Here is the group’s whakaeke, Maa Te Penei which was a favourite of Koro Wina Taute who just happens to be the father of the seven siblings performing together for the first time.

The overall theme of the performance is to reaffirm they are a people of two marae who are both dedicated to the support of the Kingitanga.
