Tāmaki prepped for NZ Māori Rugby League Rangatahi Tournament

The Tāmaki Makaurau U17 team is excited to return to the NZ Māori Rugby League Rangatahi tournament.

According to Tuteauru Maipi, “We have a good team. A lot of the players are from Auckland, but we've also asked others from different regions to join.”

Tuteauru Maipi will lace his boots up with Tāmaki Makaurau this year, after playing for Waikato last year.

“When I played for Waikato, I played with my cousins and uncles, but I've told them I'm now playing for Auckland because I live here and I get to play with my mates.”

The tournament has been going since 2000 and has grown in numbers over the years. This year, nine teams will compete for the U17 title in front of special representatives.

The side will travel down to Rotorua this Friday to prepare for the competition starting this Saturday.
