Tarawera Ultra-marathon continues despite cyclone

The Tarawera Ultra-marathon continued on today regardless of the weather warning concerning cyclone Lusi.

Competitor Clair Barry says, “this is the first year that this event has been part of the world Ultra-Marathon tour so they got really, really strong international field here today."

Organisers pushed on with the sports event being held between Rotorua and Kawerau.

According to Simon Hertnon, “Normally it's 100kms but today due to the weather cyclone we've reduced it to 65kms.”

This is the sixth time the Tarawera Ultra-marathon has run and it's a hard 100kms.

Starting from the Redwoods in Rotorua they should finish up in Kawerau late this evening with prize giving set for tomorrow.
