Te Arawa celebrates top athletes at annual awards night

Te Arawa's finest athletes were celebrated for their efforts at the annual awards night held at The Holiday Inn in Rotorua.

Stephen Te Moni from Te Papa Tākaro o Te Arawa says, “It's all about being able to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our youth and all those others from our tribe and the wider Te Arawa family.”

Prestigious awards went to the likes of volleyball sensation, Melissa Ruru, who took out the NZ Service to Sport award, and the Senior Sportswoman of the Year award went to whitewater rafter, Dale Thomas.

The awards night has been going for well over 15 years and had a number of high calibre nominations, a promising sign for the future of Te Arawa sports people.
