Te Haaro o te Kaahu Kapa Haka Kura Tuarua 2016 – Raakaumangamanga

Rakaumangamanga was established in 1994.

The group describes a number of key themes for their performance this year.  These include Kingitanga, racism, politics and social media and finally, the death of Moko Rangitoheriri.

Their mission statement is "Kia mau ki te ture, te whakapono, me te aroha".

Rakaumangamanga's success in past years has allowed many former and current students to go on and perform for senior Tainui groups such as Ngā Pou o Roto, ko Te Pou o Mangatāwhiri, Te Iti Kahurangai, Te Haona Kaha and Horo Pounamu.

Leading the group this year is kaitātaki tāne Matawhaiti Nepe-Pohatu who is of Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Mahuta descent. The kaitātaki wahine is Ngamako Rota from Ngāti Wairere and Ngāti Mahuta.

The tutors are Ora and Leilani Kihi.

This clip shows the group’s whakaeke performance, ‘Te Iwi Kaikiri’.  This performance deals with racism and discrimination.
