Te Haaro o te Kaahu Kapa Haka Kura Tuarua 2016 – Te Pōtiki Hononga Kura

Te Pōtiki Hononga Kura combines performers from Te Kura o Kokohuia and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Tūpoho and was established in 2009.

The group first performed at the Secondary Kapa Haka Aotea regionals competition the same year and qualified for this year's competition at the regionals held in Hawera in 2015.

Te Pōtiki Hononga Kura describe their kaupapa as retaining, sustaining and maintaining their korero, whakapapa, mita and tikanga o Te Awa Tupua.

The group’s kaitātaki wahine is Te Amorangi Karaitiana and their kaitātaki tane is Pukaea Naera-Reweti.

Te Pōtiki Hononga Kura describe the key themes of their performance as tracing their genealogy from the gods, through their tupuna, kaumātua, awa and whenua.

This clip shows the group’s whakaeke, entitled ‘He Whenua Māori a Pākaitore’.
