Te Matatini food stalls promote healthy kai

Crowds have feasted on a menu of kapa haka today, and off stage, fans have been encouraged to get on the haka diet at the food stalls.

Feeding the language, the spirit and the body with a large selection of healthy kai.

Fried is out the door and fresh is in as Te Matatini sets a new menu and frame of mind.

Hana O’Regan of Ngāi Tahu believes there's nothing like home-grown food to sustain your whole being.

Te Matatini Executive Director, Darren Apanui shares the sentiment, “We want to reduce on fried food this year, so every stall here at Te Matatini have a commitment to provide fresh healthy kai.”

Old favourites are still sizzling, but fried bread can only be bought with a salad.

Hana O'Regan says, "It's thanks to those performers, we know it didn't just happen overnight, it's was through sweat, and pushing the body to the limit."

Tāmaki Makaurau MP, Peeni Henare believes the healthy alternative is brilliant, “Yesterday I went to Te Waka Huia's accommodation here in Christchurch and they were having protein shakes and I agree we should be looking at healthier options.”

The majority verdict on the new menu is great food and great taste for the body mind and soul.
