Te Papa will reopen on Friday after a suspicious item was cleared by Police.
A spokesperson said the building was evacuated just before 3 p.m Thursday after discovery of the item.
Specialist Police teams searched the Cable St Museum before declaring the item harmless.
A spokesperson told Māori Television the operation was 'very much precautionary'.
