Te Tai Tokerau Iwi leaders launched it's Māori economic strategy for the region this morning, He Tangata, He Whenua, He Oranga.

The strategy is a product of work undertaken by Tai Tokerau Iwi chairs’ and chief executives’ in the hope of stimulating the current stagnant Māori Northland economy.

Te Rarawa Iwi chair, Haami Piripi, says optimising the Māori asset base in Northland is key. Particular areas include fisheries, forestry, and most importantly unlocking under-utilised Māori land.

The Te Kāea team will bring you in depth coverage online and on air of events at Waitangi throughout the week, for more on this story tune in to Te Kāea, 5.30pm.
