Te Tairāwhiti Kapa Haka Regionals 2016 - Tū Te Manawa Maurea

Linked to all the marae and hapū of Rongowhakāta, this year Tū Te Manawa Maurea celebrate 10 years in the making as they take the stage the Gisborne Event centre in Houhoupiko.

Based in Manutūkē, a small settlement out of Gisborne, Tū Te Manawa Maurea was one of four teams represent Te Tairāwhiti at the Te Matatini in Christchurch last year.

The group also actively contribute to the growth of kapa haka at kōhungahunga, primary, secondary, tertiary and community levels within Tūranganui-a-kiwa.

International experiences for Tū te Manawa Maurea include performances at the World Folk Song Festival and The NZ/China – Fair Trade Agreement Signing in Beijing, China.

Today the group is led on stage by Dayne Hollis (male leader) and Jean Moetara (female leader), and the item they’ve chosen to share is Waiata-a-ringa composed by Teina Moetara, Hone Poi and Pīata Waitai, titled “Ngā marae tapu o Rongowhakāta.
